Social assistance reform is vital as welfare rolls continue to grow

Refugees forced to take out loans to pay for medical exams, travel to Canada
Posted March 26, 2009 - The Canadian Council for Refugees has posted a new video on its web site called "Hidden Costs," which is part of a national campaign to have the Canadian government eliminate transportation loans for refugees. Currently, refugees must pay for travel to Canada and their medical exam. Since most refugees can't afford these costs, Canada offers them a loan that they must repay with interest, leaving refugee families with a debt of up to $10,000.

Complaints cause Ontario Energy Board to ban 'smart meter' use in apartment buildings
